The University of Pikeville's Master of Science in Biomedical Science (M.S.) is a fully online, 30-credit graduate program, with 27 credits comprising the core curriculum. The program aims to provide students with a strong foundation in biomedical sciences and prepare them for professional or doctoral-level study, as well as careers in healthcare, research, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, public health, or education. The core courses are designed to develop comprehensive understanding, scientific reasoning, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, ethical awareness, professionalism, and career readiness.

Program-Level Student Learning Outcomes 

Graduates of the Master of Science in Biomedical Science program will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of core biomedical science concepts, including biochemical, cellular, microbiological, and anatomical/physiological processes.
  2. Apply scientific reasoning and research methodologies to design, analyze, interpret, and critique biomedical research studies using appropriate statistical and analytical tools.
  3. Communicate biomedical information clearly and effectively in oral, written, and visual formats to academic, clinical, and professional audiences.
  4. Evaluate and solve biomedical problems by integrating foundational science knowledge with evidence-based approaches relevant to clinical, healthcare, or industry settings.
  5. Demonstrate preparedness for professional or doctoral-level study by meeting defined academic competencies aligned with admission standards for medical, optometric, dental, or health-related programs.
  6. Interpret and apply ethical principles and federal regulations relevant to biomedical research and clinical practice, including responsible conduct of research, human subjects protections, and privacy standards (e.g., HIPAA, IRB protocols).
  7. Exhibit professional behaviors and interpersonal skills necessary for effective collaboration in interdisciplinary biomedical environments.
